PAEONIA                                           

- `Bowl of Beauty´. Flowers in July. Upright lemony-cream petaloides sit in a large bowl of bright pink petals. Hardy. Prefers full sun, in rich moisture retaining soil.

PASSIFLORA

- caerulea. The hardiest of the passion flowers, mine grows outside and has recently decided to take over an apple tree and part of next doors garden! Seems to like having its roots in a cool damp spot.

- mollisima. Half hardy. Prefers full sun, in ordinary soil. Likes a warm sheltered position.

PAULOWNIA

- tomentosa. Flowers in May. `Foxglove tree´ Produces huge (up to 1m wide) soft downy leaves if cut back early in the year with growth up to 2m , if left will grow into a large specimen tree with spikes of foxglove like flowers. Fully Hardy. Plant in ordinary soil.

PHOENIX

- canariensis. Grows into a slender and graceful palm, hardy in a sheltered position when larger. Half hardy. Plant in ordinary well drained soil. Likes a sheltered position.

PHORMIUM

Greenish-black foliage edged with narrow yellow & red stripes.  Strong winds can damage the foliage so best planted in a sheltered spot. If planted in an exposed position wrap up the leaves with fleece each winter. Hardy. Prefers full sun, in ordinary moist but well drained soil.

- `Bronze Baby´. Architectural evergreen plant from New Zealand. This variety has dark bronze foliage which is an excellent plant for bringing contrast into the border. Strong winds can damage the foliage so best planted in a sheltered spot. If planted in an exposed position wrap up the leaves with fleece each winter. Hardy. Prefers full sun, in ordinary moist but well drained soil. Likes a sheltered position.
